WEEK 11 – 11/9
Workshop: Hand-coding basic HTML

Assignment:
Create 3 web pages (that explore an aspect of your identity) using the tags shown in class and upload it to your newschool webspace.

WebSpace is space on a Web server where degree students can upload files for their personal Web sites which are viewable by the public.

WebSpace is available to degree students only. Each degree student has access using his or her NetID username and password. As part of the Single Sign-On initiative, your use of WebSpace requires no “activation” or special setup.

The WebSpace server is secure, so you need to use an SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) client or SSH (Secure Shell Handler) client to communicate with the server and transfer files to your WebSpace.

Suggested SFTP & SSH clients available for free download (For your convenience, these are also available in The Labs on all stations):

1.    SFTP client for Windows: FileZilla
2.    SFTP client for Mac: Fugu
3.    SSH client for Windows: SSH Secure Shell for Workstations 3.2, Putty
4.    SSH client for Mac: iTerm

Login to server name: webspace.newschool.edu using your NetID username and password. Upload files into the /public_html/ folder. Then, they will be viewable on the Web.

The URL of your public Web site is webspace.newschool.edu/~yourusername.

You may store on the server up to 100MB, the hard quota.

You can upload any file type. For Web site viewing, you of course want to use Web-compatible files (.html, .htm, .gif, .jpg…)

Always back up your files. The New School is not responsible for missing or damaged files. The WebSpace server is not backed up. Files uploaded to this server can be lost in the event of a server failure.
