Holding Not Having, 2005

My mother died in 2000 and my father died in 2004. Experiencing these losses made me keenly aware of the ephemerality of life. In this series, I explored the impermanence and temporality of our lives, disrupting the mirage of permanence inherent in photographic images while envisioning the imprint that is left behind. Images from the natural world are superimposed onto photographs taken of friends and family, creating a confluence of human and natural forms, of that which was present then, and that which is carried forth.

This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds
To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance.
A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky,
